Marc Jacobs x Dr. Martens: The Iconic Kiki Boot Collaboration

Fashion enthusiasts and footwear fans, take note: here’s an exciting collaboration that perfectly blends bold creativity with heritage design—yet, there’s more to this story than meets the eye. And this is the part most people miss: the reinterpretation of a beloved classic is often a reflection of evolving styles as much as a nod to brand legacy. But here’s where it gets controversial… Is merging two iconic brands always a win, or does it risk diluting their unique identities?

Marc Jacobs, renowned for his playful and often provocative approach to fashion, is once again teaming up with Dr. Martens, the quintessential British footwear brand synonymous with rebellious attitude and durability. Their latest project? A fresh take on the famous Kiki boot, an emblematic style that first made waves on the runway back in fall 2016 and quickly became a signature piece for the house. This new version reimagines the Kiki boot with the signature rugged edge of Dr. Martens, combining utilitarian details with Jacobs’s signature playful aesthetic.

The updated Kiki boot now features Dr. Martens’ iconic Corran-heeled sole, sturdy laddered silver buckles, and custom lock-and-key charms—elements that nod to past collaborations while adding a distinctive touch of their own. With a retail price of $290, this limited-edition design will be available in Black, Bright Lavender, and Black Croc-Embossed Analine — offering a variety of choices for fans and collectors alike.

The collection will launch simultaneously online at marcjacobs.com and drmartens.com, as well as in select retail locations. Notably, the Croc-Embossed Leather version will be exclusive to Marc Jacobs’ website, making it a special find for eager shoppers.

Michael Ford, senior category manager at Dr. Martens, shared a bit of background: “We’re excited to deepen this enduring partnership. For this collection, we drew inspiration from Marc Jacobs’ Kiki Boot—an iconic piece—and infused it with Dr. Martens’ unmistakable DNA, especially our Corran outsole, to craft something truly distinctive that embodies the spirit of both brands.”

Throughout the years, the Kiki boot has undergone various transformations—altered heights, a spectrum of colors, and diverse materials—solidifying its place within fashion and pop culture. Many celebrities have embraced this daring footwear; Teyana Taylor, for instance, has been seen sporting different versions at high-profile events like the Nike Skims launch in New York and the Los Angeles premiere of ‘One Battle After Another.’ Celebrated artists such as Cynthia Erivo, Lady Gaga, Ice Spice, and FKA Twigs have also been spotted rocking the Kiki boot at various occasions.

This isn’t their first collaboration. Back in 2018, the brands teamed up to create a grunge-inspired reinterpretation of Dr. Martens’ classic 1490 boot, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Marc Jacobs’ groundbreaking spring 1993 runway show for Perry Ellis. Additionally, they’ve explored Dr. Martens’ platform Jadon boot, embellishing it with chains and charms, and collaborated on numerous collections with Heaven, Marc Jacobs’ youth-oriented line launched in 2020.

So, what do you think? Do collaborations like this elevate fashion by blending heritage and modernity, or do they risk watering down the distinct identities of these iconic brands? Drop your thoughts in the comments—are they truly harmonizing or simply riding the latest trend wave?
