Upon her arrival, President Murmu was greeted by Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Tete Antonio, and the Vice Governor of Luanda Province, Jorge Miguens. This warm reception sets the stage for a productive and amicable visit.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized the significance of this visit, stating that it reflects India’s growing engagement with Africa and will further solidify bilateral cooperation. He added, “President Droupadi Murmu’s presence in Luanda underscores our commitment to strengthening ties with Angola.”
Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations) at the MEA, highlighted the special significance of this visit, given that President Lourenço, who visited India earlier this year, currently chairs the African Union. He recalled India’s consistent support for Angola during its freedom struggle, a shared history that deepens the bond between the two nations.
A Focus on Cooperation and Celebration
During her visit, President Murmu will engage in bilateral talks and participate in Angola’s 50th Independence Day celebrations on November 11th. She is also scheduled to address the Angolan parliament and meet with members of the Indian community, fostering a sense of connection and collaboration.
Discussions will center around deepening cooperation in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, trade, technology, infrastructure, defense, and investment. This visit promises to unlock new avenues of collaboration and mutual benefit.
After her engagements in Angola, President Murmu will continue her diplomatic journey to Botswana from November 11th to 13th.
